The small village of Rawai is located on the southern tip of Phuket and provides a dream backdrop with its tranquillity. Beyond the more famous tourist destinations such as Patong or Karon, you can find yourself here especially among Thais. Rawai is a very popular destination for locals. Many hotels and resorts are located right on Rawai Beach and overlook the Andaman Sea.

Activities around Rawai

Rawai Beach is not recommended for swimming or snorkelling, as the beach around Rawai is only very narrow and at the same time serves as a dock for longtail and speedboats. However, the lack of swimming fun is offset by the many restaurants that offer culinary treats around the seafront, including sea views. Located on the southern tip, Rawai Beach is the perfect base for touring Phuket’s neighbouring islands. Just 15 minutes from Rawai is Koh Bon Island. Often local fishermen take the tourists to the island with their longtail boats and pick them up there again. On the uninhabited island, a dream beach awaits all bathing enthusiasts and sun worshippers. Hotels are search in vain on Bon Island. The beach is therefore almost deserted, especially in the evening.

For those who would like to stay on Phuket itself, you can take a ride to the nearest beach, Nai Harn. This can be reached by bus from Rawai Beach in half an hour. Another recommended sight on Phuket is the Shell Museum in Rawai. It is home to arguably the largest and most intriguing display of shells in Thailand – if not the whole world. The main component of the museum is shells from the Andaman Sea around Phuket itself. But there are also specimens from other marine regions around Thailand to admire.

A special highlight in Rawai Beach is the settlement of the sea abands of Phuket. The village in Rawai is the oldest of the three settlements of the Chao Le, as the sea nomads in Thailand are known. Here, tourists can stroll through the village and get to know the habits of the indigenous people.

The best hotels in Rawai

Although Rawai does not reach the same number of visitors as Patong, the village still attracts many visitors from Thailand itself and from abroad. In Rawai, tourists get to know the more original Phuket. Rawai has no vibrant nightlife, such as in Kata and Patong. However, there are still a few or a few discos, otherwise the nightlife in Rawai takes place around the waterfront in the restaurants and bars on the beach. As far as hotels and accommodation are concerned, Rawai does not need to hide behind Patong or other places on Phuket. The variety here, too, ranges from simpler accommodation to 5-star hotels and spas.
