Accommodation

Although Phuket Island, with its 50 kilometers in length, is not that big, it is an ideal holiday island that offers tourists everything you could possibly want for the most beautiful days of the year: Sun, endless sandy beaches and palm trees, but also attractive Shopping, various attractions and a distinct party zone. The audience on the island is correspondingly mixed and are the expectations of visitors for the accommodations.

Some are looking for relaxation in the hotels and nature experiences on Phuket, others want to celebrate and lie on the beach. Sightseeing and sports are also very popular on the island. The wellness offer of the numerous spas is welcome. There are families with children, pensioners, fresh married couples, partygoers and backpackers.

Each guest has their own ideas and wishes – also in terms of the accommodation. That’s why the range of hotels and other forms of living on Phuket is cluttered and those who have the choice are in agony. It makes sense to consider where exactly and how to spend your holiday before booking. And, of course, price also plays a crucial role. Here are the latest proposals from 2018.

Phuket Hotels: Different types of living

There are four types of living arrangements that tourists on Phuket are particularly fond of offering as accommodation:

  • Guest Houses
  • Private room ./. Apartment
  • Cottages
  • Hotels

Guest Houses

These are very simple hotels with usually only one star and correspondingly low price. The rooms are clean and often bright and friendly, have bathrooms and Wlan, but are small and somewhat spartan furnished. There is no pool or fancy restaurants in these hotels, but it’s enough to stay if you don’t have too big a claim. Rooms in Guest Houses are available from €10 per night. They are especially suitable for backpackers, students, passers and anyone else who travels on a budget and only needs the most necessary.

Private room/Apartments

There are also a number of private providers on Phuket who compete with the hotels and rent out individual rooms or their apartment to guests. Size and equipment are individually different, so you have to click through the offers. In any case, you can stay so very cheap and still nice or central on Phuket. The advantage of private accommodation over hotels is that you can get some valuable insider tips about the island through the local landlord. A large provider in this market is wimdu.de Here are over 500 offers for Phuket registered.

Cottages

Larger groups or families who would like to stay among themselves are probably more likely to feel comfortable in a rented holiday home, rather than in the big hotels. Here you have privacy and don’t have to stick to the times, meals and regulations of hotels. The cottages come in different sizes and locations, the equipment is usually high-quality and complete: Bed linen and towels are available on site and do not have to be brought with you. A pool is usually part of it, as well as a train service that ensures order and cleanliness. Whether you want to cook in the kitchens yourself or eat your meals in the numerous surrounding restaurants is up to everyone. At tripadvisor.de there are numerous holiday homes on offer. Two bedroom houses are available from around €80 per night, with three-bedroom homes costing from €100 per night.

Hotels

Hotels are available on Phuket like sand on the beach and for every taste and every budget there is something. The best way to find a hotel is through the relevant search engines – there is always a description and often also reviews of former guests to orient oneself on.

In order to find the optimal hotel, you should consider in advance how you want to spend your holiday. Depending on what you plan to do, you should choose the area where the hotel is located.

Which memorial/Which beach?

High Life: Celebrate, bathe, shop

Phuket offers some centers where there is always something going on 24/7. The most famous is Patong: Here you can shop for hours, the 3.5-kilometer-long beach is well bustling, everywhere there are restaurants, bars and nightclubs. On the party mile Bangla Road you can party until the doctor arrives. In Patong everything is close together, you don’t need to travel around much.

If Patong Beach is too fierce, you can also celebrate beautifully in Kata. Kata Beach Beach is one of Phuket’s most beautiful. Here you can surf and dive, but also shop. Kata is considered more family-friendly than Patong.

Rest: Relax and go for a walk

If you want to come to Phuket to relax and relax, you’d rather look for a hotel in Nai Harn. This is where the locals go on holiday. The bays and beaches are rather small and surrounded by mountains. That is why there is little room for hotels and the location is correspondingly quiet. Nai Harn is very popular with sailors, divers and snorkelers. There are few shops and attractions, but at least a few good restaurants. Nai Harn Beach is the ideal place to relax in nature.

Mai Khao Beach is Phuket’s longest beach at eleven kilometres and invites you to take wonderful long walks. It is lined with palm trees and other tropical plants and is often deserted. Between November and February, with a bit of luck, you can watch giant sea turtles come ashore to lay their eggs. There’s not much going on here, but there’s the Splash Jungle Water Park, which gives children a treat. This region is particularly popular for honeymoons, switching off or with families with young children.

Authentic Thailand

Rawai Beach was Phuket’s first tourist beach, but the region in the southeast of the island somehow managed to maintain an authentic atmosphere. The fishermen’s numerous long tail boats, anchored along the two-and-a-half kilometre pier, add significantly to this impression. If you want to experience a piece of real Thailand on Phuket, you are in the best of hands in the area of Rawai Beach. There are a few shops and nightlife options, also some great restaurants and bars on the beach, but compared to Patong Beach it is very quiet here. The geographical proximity to the remarkable sights such as Promthep Cape or Phuket Big Buddha offers visitors another opportunity to experience a piece of real Thailand.

If you are looking for more urban Thailand, you should descend on Phuket Town. The island’s capital offers new experiences at every turn. Here it is possible to buy local food on the numerous markets and then prepare it yourself at home. In architecture you can see the different cultures that have shaped Thailand and especially Phuket. Phuket Town is probably the best place on the island to have “real” Thailand experiences. Unfortunately, only one beach for swimming is not available.

Panwa Beach, despite construction activities right and left in the other cities, has managed to maintain its original character. It is a quiet paradise with great views and very scenic. Luxury villas and condos line almost the entire beach, there are quaint fishing huts in between and, in the end, there’s a mangrove swamp. However, the beach is only partially suitable for bathing and therefore not recommended for families with small children.

Family

For families traveling with small or large children, the area of Kata Beach is ideal: The beach is long and lively, here you can surf or explore the reef between the beach and Pu Island as a diver. The nightlife is fun, but it’s not as fierce as it is in Patong. There are numerous restaurants, shops, lookouts and a wide range of leisure activities. There’s something for everyone here, all the family members get their money’s worth.

Another hot spot for families – maybe just those with young children or with the grandparents – is Kamala. The place may be a stone’s throw away from Patong Beach, but the exact opposite: In Kamala, you’ll find its peace and quiet. There is a wide range of quality affordable hotels and many spas invite you to wellness. The dreamlike beach of Kamala Beach invites you to relax and is one of the few on Phuket, where the restaurants reach directly to the sea. The Phuket Fantasea is more famous than the beach in Kamala: A gigantic stage show in the style of Las Vegas.

Bang Tao Beach offers the second longest beach on Phuket at six kilometres, which invites you for wonderful walks. Here, cheap middle-class hotels alternate with luxury resorts. The partly quite original region is a rather quiet destination, but can also boast a few beach clubs and excellent restaurants. The shopping and nightlife are rather limited – you would have to take a trip to Patong, 15 kilometres away. Bang Tao Beach is more suitable for people fleeing stress and everyday life and is suitable for families.

Sports

Chalong is the ideal destination for anyone interested in water sports. There are docks for boats, yachts and ships, the largest being 720 metres long and seven metres wide. From here, many diving and excursion groups also set sail. The Ao Chalong Yacht Club regularly organises regattas and is a popular spot for sailors. There are first-class seafood restaurants and various shopping options and in the area around Tiger Muay Thai fitness freaks and Thai boxers can power out. Only the muddy coast is not so ideal for swimming.

Other surfing and scuba diving destinations include Kata, Kamala and Nai Harn Beach. Surin Beach is also a good surfer spot. However, this is a very exclusive area. Those with enough small money in their pockets can also surf and snorkel well in Surin.
